Cyprus records three deaths due to COVID19 and 128 new infections

The Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday that three persons lost their lives due to COVID19, bringing the number of deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic to 193, 130 men  (67%), and 63 women  (33%) with the median age being 80.

A total of 155 patients are receiving treatment in state hospitals, 52 of whom in a critical condition.

Meanwhile, it was announced that 12,133 tests (PCR and antigen rapid tests) were carried out and 128 new infections with the  coronavirus were detected, thus raising the number of cases to 30,380.

The three people who died were a woman of 76 years of age with underlying conditions and two men (80 and 84 years old) also with underlying conditions.

In the Famagusta General Hospital there are 47 patients receiving treatment, 66 are in the Nicosia General Hospital, 41 in the Limassol General Hospital and one in the Makario Hospital in Nicosia.

Out of the 12,133 laboratory tests carried out on Wednesday, 1,756 were done with the PCR method and 10,377 with the antigen rapid method. The 128 new infections were found as follows: 48 cases after contact tracing, 19 after private initiative, 3 cases were found after testing samples in the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals, one case was found after GP referral, and the remaining 57 cases were found with the antigen rapid test method.

Meanwhile, no cases were found after 96 samples taken at airports and 44 tests done on the 7th day of the mandatory isolation in  Republic`s hotels of passengers arriving in Cyprus from the UK.
