Cyprus reports one death and 339 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday

Cyprus reported Sunday one death from Covid-19 and 339 new coronavirus cases out of a total of 8,778 tests (PCR and antigen rapid test). Positivity rate rose to 3.86%.

A press release the Ministry of Health says that 208 patients are treated in public hospitals, 55 of them in serious condition. The total number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic has reached 148, while the total number of cases amounts to 27,350.

The deceased is a 75-year old man with underlying health conditions, treated at Limassol General Hospital. Out of the total 148 deaths, 99 or 67% were men and 49 or 33% were women. The median age of the deceased is 80.

In total, 208 Covid-19 patients are undergoing treatment in state hospitals, 55 of whom are in a serious condition. Of them 32 are intubated, 4 are being treated in an ICU but are not intubated and 18 are being treated in an Advanced Care Unit.

Out of 8,778 laboratory tests carried out (1,607 PCR tests and 7,967 antigen rapid tests) 339 new cases were confirmed.

In particular, 118 people tested positive out of 607 samples taken in the context of contact tracing, 33 people tested positive out of 473 samples tested by private initiative, one person tested positive out of 234 samples taken following GP referrals or public health clinics, 2 people tested positive out of 19 samples taken in the context checks by Cyprus Basketball Federation and Cyprus Volleyball Federation and 170 cases were detected from 7,171 samples from antigen rapid tests.
