Cyprus reports two deaths and 326 new coronavirus cases on Sunday

Cyprus health authorities announced two deaths and 326 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, brining the island’s total tally of deaths and Covid infections since the onset of the pandemic to 252 and 44,631, respectively.

According to the Ministry the two deaths concern a 69 year-old woman, who was inoculated with the first dose of the vaccine and a 74 year-old man, without a vaccination record. Both had underlying conditions and died at the ICU of Nicosia General Hospital.

The Ministry of Health said in a press release that a total of 55,090 test were carried out today with the daily positivity rate remaining at 0.59%.

Of the 196 persons receiving treatment in state hospitals, 52 are treated in intensive care units or advanced care units, while 21 are intubated in ICUs.

According to the Ministry, the 326 cases were diagnosed following 55,090 tests, of which 2,132 PCR tests and 52,958 rapid antigen tests.

A total of 75 cases were diagnosed after 508 samples taken in the context of the contact tracing programme, 28 cases from 901 tests following private initiative, 6 new cases were diagnosed after 159 tests carried out by Microbiological Labs in the General Hospitals.

Furthermore, 5 cases were identified after testing 361 samples in immigrant reception centers, and 212 cases were detected from 52,958 rapid antigen tests carried out in the context of the Ministry of Health’s testing programme.

By district, 66 cases were diagnosed in Nicosia after 17,312 tests with the positivity rate at 0.38%, in Limassol 80 new cases emerged following 13,122 tests with a positivity rate at 0.61%, in Larnaca 34 new cases were diagnosed after 7,440 tests with a positivity rate at 0.46%. In Pafos 13 new cases emerged after 3,956 tests with a positivity rate at 0.33% and in Famagusta the positivity rate amounted to 0.41% as 10 cases were diagnosed following 2,449 tests. The Ministry said that there were 9 positive tests from 8,461 tests in businesses.
