Four COVID-19 patients died, 159 new cases on Monday

Four COVID-19 patients have died, while 159 new coronavirus cases have been detected, Cyprus Health Ministry announced on Monday. The positivity rate is 0.21%.

According to the Ministry, the number of people who have lost their life due to COVID-19 is now 532, and 118,090 coronavirus cases have been reported since the pandemic broke out.

A total of 107 patients are currently hospitalised, 45 of whom in a critical situation, while 82.25% of the COVID-19 patients who are treated in hospital have not been vaccinated. Out of the 45 patients whose condition is critical 19 are intubated, one is treated in an Intensive Treatment Unit but is not intubated and 25 are treated in Increased Care Units.

Moreover 10 post-COVID patients, who have ceased to be contagious, are intubated in Intensive Treatment Units and their situation is critical due to COVID.

A total of 76,913 tests were carried out using the PCR method (5,111) and antigen rapid tests (71,802).

The four patients who have died are two men and two women. A 66 year old female patient died on September 12 at Nicosia General Hospital Intensive Treatment Unit, a 73 year old male patient died on September 12 at Nicosia General Hospital Intensive Treatment Unit, an 84 year old male patient died on Monday at Larnaca General Hospital and an 89 year old female patient passed away on Monday at Famagusta General Hospital.

Out of the 532 COVID-19 patients who have died 341 (64%) are men and 191 (36%) are women. Their median age is 76.4 years old.

The 159 new cases announced on Monday were traced as follows: 14 cases out of 215 samples taken during contact tracing, 5 cases out of 2,679 samples taken by passengers at Larnaca and Pafos airports, 26 cases out of 1,694 samples taken at the private initiative, 7 cases out of 279 samples taken by the General Hospitals Microbioloby Labs, 82 cases out of 50,693 samples tested using antigen rapid tests at private clinical labs and pharmacies, and 25 cases out of 21,109 samples tested using antigen rapid tests through the Health Ministry`s programme.
