Cyprus' Health Minister, Michalis Hadjipantela received the second booster shot -4th in total- of the vaccine against COVID-19, on Wednesday morning. The Minister visited the Nicosia vaccination centre, located at the State Fair grounds, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Christina Yiannaki, who administered the shot.

The Minister's vaccination came following a decision by the Vaccination Committee to lower the age limit for the second booster shot to people over 30 years old.

"Vaccination has proved to be the only way to be protected from serious hospitalization", the Minister stated after getting the jab. "I urge everyone to take advantage of the new updated vaccines to protect themselves", he added.

Regarding vaccine availability in Cyprus, Hadjipantela said that the Ministry receives updated vaccines all the time. "It was after my initiative that the pharmaceutical companies committed to send only new generation vaccines" he added.

According to information from the Ministry of Health, the Pfizer vaccine is available every day at the vaccination centers, while the Moderna vaccine is also available every Tuesday and Thursday, starting tomorrow. Both vaccines are updated and cover Omicron variants 4 and 5.

Regarding flu vaccines, the Minister noted that for the first time this year we will have 170,000 doses from September.
