Health Ministry announced 178 new coronavirus cases

The Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday that 192 COVID19 patients are receiving treatment in state hospitals, 60 of whom in a critical condition, while 178 new cases of coronavirus were detected out of  9,884 tests (PCR and antigen rapid tests).

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, 29,472 people were infected with the coronavirus in Cyprus.

The Ministry also announced that no deaths were reported on Wednesday. The number of people who lost their lives due to COVID19 in Cyprus stands at 176, 117 men  (66%), and 59 women  (34%). The median age is 80.

As regards hospitalisations, a total of 63 patients are receiving treatment in the Famagusta General Hospital, while 71 are  in the Nicosia General Hospital and 58 in the Limassol General Hospital.

Out of the  9,884 laboratory tests carried out on Wednesday,  2,050 were done with the PCR method and 7,834 with the antigen rapid test method. The 178 new cases were detected as follows: 58 through contact tracing, 24 after private initiative, 18 were positive samples taken in the Microbiology Labs of the General Hospitals, 4 were found after GP referrals, and 74 were positive results of antigen rapid tests.

Moreover, no cases were found after 98 samples taken at airports, 178 tests done at refugee camps and 31 samples taken among UK passengers on the 7th day of their mandatory self-isolation in the Republic`s hotels.
