Health Ministry announced five deaths from COVID and 116 new cases

Cyprus Health Ministry announced five deaths from COVID, 116 new cases and 112 citizens who are hospitalized, 31 in serious condition, on Thursday.

The positivity rate stands at 0,41% and the new cases were detected from a total of 28,405 tests.

The total number of deaths is 208 and the cases in Cyprus Republic since the pandemic broke out is 31,379.

All deceased had underlying conditions and passed away at the Nicosia General Hospital. Four are males, 81, 73, 86 and 71 year old and one is female, 84 years old. From the  208 people who lost their lives to COVID, 140 are male (67%), and 68 female (33%) with a median age 79 years.

From the 112 patients, 31 are in serious condition and 19 of them are intubated. Three are in an ICU and 9 in an ACU.

The 116 new cases were detected as follows:

Twenty six cases from 276 samples taken in the contact tracing processs, 14 from 612 tests done on private initiative, 4 from 305 samples taken at the Microbiological labs of General Hospitals, 1 from a GP referral/testing at public clinics and 71 from 26,813 rapid tests.

No cases were diagnosed from 249 tests at airports and from 41 samples taken from people who arrived from the UK and were tested on the 7th day of their quarantine.
