EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakides pointed out that she aims to support the Ministry of Health of Cyprus as much as possible in order to implement many of the European programs and policies that it has adopted as a member state.
Speaking before her meeting in Nicosia with the newly appointed Minister of Health Popi Kanari, Kyriakides said that the aim of the meeting was to discuss issues, such as the new legislation concerning the accessibility and adequacy of medicines which she will submit on March 29. As she said, this proposal also concerns Cyprus as a small country.
At the same time, she said that the briefing concerns the Europe's Beating Cancer Plan in which Cyprus already participates with various actions and is financed by the EU for Health and other funds.
She added that for issues related to COVID there must be a continuous update, since as she said the pandemic continues. Kyriakides, added that in a significant number of member states there is an increase in cases and hospitalizations of COVID and that constant information and vigilance is needed.
For her part, the Minister of Health, Popi Kanari, stressed the continuation of the Ministry's close cooperation with the Commissioner, but also the Ministry's will to support the Commissioner in the aims and objectives she has on her agenda.
