Ministry announced two more deaths due to COVID-19 and 363 new cases

The Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday two more deaths due to COVID19 and 363 new cases of coronavirus.

In addition, 116 patients are being treated, 23 of whom in a critical condition.

A 79 year old man with underlying conditions who was receiving treatment at the Famagusta General Hospital and a 98 year old man with underlying conditions who was also in the Famagusta General Hospital lost their lives due to COVID19, bringing the total number of deaths to 70, 46 men  (66%), and 24 women  (34%) with a median age 77 years.

A total of 12,253 tests were carried out on Wednesday, 3,829 PCR tests and  8,424 antigen rapid tests. The number of confirmed cases is 363 (including 111 verified antigen rapid tests done in previous days) bringing the number of cases since the outbreak of the pandemic to 13,649.

As regards hospitalisations, in the Famagusta General Hospital there are 61 patients, 4 of whom in the Increased Care Unit, in the Nicosia General Hospital there are 27 patients, 15 of whom in the Intensive Care Unit, in the Limassol General Hospital there are 23 patients, 4 of whom in the Increased Care Unit and in the Makario Hospital in Nicosia there are 5 patients.

A total of 3,829 laboratory tests were carried out with the PCR method and 363 coronavirus cases were found as follows,
89 cases out of 707 samples taken from contact tracing, 6 out of 401 tests done at airports, 133 cases out of 1,428 tests done upon private initiative, 12 out of 311 samples taken at the Microbiological Labs of the General Hospitals, 3 out of 254 tests done after GP referrals, 9 out of 52 samples taken in care homes and 111 cases were found after 112 positive samples of antigen rapid tests done in previous days and verified today.

Meanwhile, no cases were found out of 527 tests done at schools, and 37 tests done at refugee camps.

In addition, 8,424 antigen rapid tests were carried out which resulted to 236 positive tests that need further verification with the PCR method.
