Ministry of Health announced 11 new COVID-19 cases

Cyprus’ Ηealth Ministry announced on Thursday 11 new COVID-19 cases, after conducting 2,755 laboratory tests. The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Cyprus rose to 1,467.

Five cases were found among passengers returning to Cyprus, from a total of 1,619 tests. Three of them came from Budapest, Hungary on 26 August and they are related.  They don’t have any symptoms. The other two came from Debrecen, Hungary on 26 August and they are not related.

Out of 125 tests from contact-tracing, four cases were detected. One of them is the wife of a confirmed case, who has symptoms. The second person is a contact of his parents (announced on 19 August and 21 August and had a travel history) and he also has symptoms. The other two people are from the family environment of the same case and they both have symptoms.

Moreover, out of 621 individuals who did the test privately, two cases were detected.  The first person came from the USA on 16 August and took the test before starting his quarantine. He tested positive, but has no symptoms. The second person took the test privately because her employer requested it. She also has no symptoms.

No cases were found after 166 tests done at Microbiological Labs of General Hospitals, 99 tests at the crossing points, 2 tests from the residents of Kato Pyrgos Tyllirias, 1 test under the control program of the Ministry of Justice for staff working in the Courts and 125 tests under the program of referrals by Personal Doctors and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.

Four patients are currently being treated at the Famagusta General Hospital one of which in the intensive care unit. One patient was discharged yesterday. One patient remains intubated in the intensive care unit at the Nicosia General Hospital.
