Ministry of Health announced two COVID-19 deaths and 403 new cases

The Ministry of Health announced that two people lost their lives due to COVID19 on Thursday, bringing the total number of deaths to 72, while 106 patients are being treated in hospitals, 20 of whom in a critical condition.

A press release by the Ministry says that 14,567 tests were carried out, 3,736 with the PCR method and 10,831 with the antigen rapid test method and 403 new cases were found and verified with the PCR method, thus bringing the total number of cases to 14,052.

A man of 81 years of age with underlying conditions who was in the ICU of the Nicosia General Hospital and a 83 year old woman also with underlying conditions who was receiving treatment in the Famagusta General Hospital are the new victims of the disease.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic 47 men (65%), and 25 women (35%) died in Cyprus due to COVID19 with 77 being the median age.

In the Famagusta General Hospital 54 people are receiving treatment, 3 of whom in the Increased Care Unit, in the Nicosia General Hospital there are 26 patients, 13 in the ICU, in the Limassol General Hospital there are 19 patients, 4 of whom in the Increased Care Unit, in the Makario Hospital in Nicosia 7 patients are receiving treatment in the COVID ward.

Regarding the PCR tests, there were 3,736 laboratory tests and 403 cases were found as follows: 98 cases out of 819 samples taken after contact tracing, 124 out of 1,549 tests done upon private initiative, 22 out of 265 samples taken in the Microbiology Labs of the General Hospitals, 4 cases out of 306 samples taken at schools, 3 cases out of 29 samples taken at refugee camps and 152 cases out of 165 samples that needed verification after antigen rapid tests done in previous days.

No cases were found after 476 tests done at airports, and after 127 tests carried out after GP referrals.

In addition, after 10,831 tests done with the antigen rapid test method there were 236 positive results that need further verification with the PCR method.
