New COVID-19 cases rise to 386, no fatalities, 88 patients hospitalized

Cypriot health authorities announced 386 new COVID-19 infections on Tuesday bringing the total number of cases since the outbreak of the pandemic to 128,424, while deaths due to COVID remained at 588 as no fatalities were reported.

A press release issued by the Ministry of Health says that a total of 59.730 tests were carried out with the daily positivity rate at 0.65%.

Furthermore, the number of persons treated at public hospitals stood at 88, of whom 38 in serious condition.

According to the Ministry, total deaths remained unchanged, with 376 or 64% concerning men and 212 or 36% women, with a median age of 76 years.

A total of 88 patients receive treatment in public hospitals, 38 of whom are being treated in serious condition in ACUs and ICUs. Of the 38 patients in serious condition, 15 are intubated in ICUs, two in ICU but not connected to a ventilator and 21 patients are in ACUs.

Data show that 62.5% of the patients have no vaccination history, while three post-COVID patients who are no longer infectious are intubated in serious condition in ICUs.

According to the press release, the new COVID cases were detected following 59,730 tests, of which 5,103 were PCR tests and 54,627 rapid antigen tests.

A total of 44 new cases were detected after 533 samples taken in the context of contact tracing, 80 new cases were traced following 2,104 tests done privately, 144 cases were traced after 31,478 rapid tests carried out in private labs and pharmacies, ten cases were traced after 260 tests done in the laboratories of public general hospitals and 108 new infections were diagnosed after 23.149 tests carried out in the context of the Ministry of Health rapid test programme.

Furthermore, one new infection was diagnosed following testing in primary schools and 23 in high schools.
