New covid cases rise to 354, no fatalities, 88 patients hospitalized

Cypriot health authorities announced 354 new COVID-19 infections on Monday bringing the total number of cases since the outbreak of the pandemic to 128,038, with deaths due to Covid remaining at 588 as no fatalities were recorded today.

A press release issued by the Ministry of Health says that a total of 66,696 tests were carried out with the daily positivity rate at 0.53%.

Furthermore, the number of persons treated at public hospitals rose to 88, of whom 39 in serious condition.

According to the Ministry, total deaths remained unchanged at 588 of whom 376 or 64% men and 212 or 36% women with median age of 76 years.

A total of 88 patients receive treatment in public hospitals, of whom 39 are being treated in serious condition in ACUs and ICUs. Of the patients in serious condition, 13 are intubated in ICUs, 1 in ICU but not connected to a ventilator and 25 patients are in ACUs.

Data show that 67.05% of the patients have no vaccination history, while 3 post-covid patients who are no longer infectious are intubated in serious condition in ICUs.

According to the press release, the 354 new COVID cases were detected following 66,696 tests, of which 4,219 were PCR tests and 62,477 rapid antigen tests.

A total of 27 new cases were detected after 405 samples taken in the context of contact tracing, 3 new cases emerged following 1,899 samples taken at the airports, 36 new cases were traced following 1,518 tests done privately, 219 cases were traced after 40,599 rapid tests carried out in private labs and pharmacies and 69 new infections were diagnosed after 21,878 tests carried out in the context of the Ministry of Health rapid test programme.

Furthermore, 4 and 11 new infections were diagnosed following testing in primary and high schools respectively.
