New measures in Larnaka District due to increasing number of COVID cases

Cyprus Minister of Health issued on Wednesday a decree for the Larnaka District due to the increasing positive cases of COVID-19. The new measures announced will come into effect at 0600 hours local time on Thursday 24 of September and will be valid for a period of two weeks.

It is announced that the Cyprus health authorities will begin sample testing of 3,000 people in the Larnaka District with immediate effect.

According to a press release by the Ministry of Health, the Minister of Health issued on Wednesday a Decree for the Larnaka District aiming at stopping the spread of the virus and protecting Public Health.

The Decree says that gatherings in homes and in public places is allowed, excluding the dining areas, with a maximum number of 10 people per house / group, including minors. In addition, it is noted that the maximum number of persons allowed to be served in restaurants in the Larnaka District is 75 people indoors and 150 people outdoors.

Religious worship in churches, mosques and other religious sites, as well as religious ceremonies, are to be performed with a maximum number of 75 persons, in accordance with the protocols that apply to places of religious worship.

Athletic games in sports halls in the context of  championships in the Larnaka District are allowed but without the presence of spectators. All protocols must be observed.

Cinemas, theatres and event halls are allowed to operate given that the number of persons does not exceed  75 indoors and 150 persons outdoors, observing in each case the guidelines and protocols.

Cocktail parties and standing for congratulations at weddings and baptisms are prohibited. Only physical presence at lunch or dinner is allowed, with a maximum attendance of 350 people.

The Ministry urges all citizens to be strictly diligent in matters of personal protection, and to pay special attention when travelling and when being with other people.

In case of  symptoms (cough, fever, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell), people are urged to immediately contact their GP.
