One COVID-19 patient and 619 new cases on Tuesday

One COVID-19 patient died on Tuesday, the Health Ministry announced, adding that 619 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed (positivity rate 1.21%) bringing the total number of cases to 52,652.

The person who has died is a 69-year-old man with underlying health problems, who has not been vaccinated. He passed away in Limassol General Hospital.

The total number of COVID-19 patients who have lost their lives is now 274. Currently 228 patients are treated in hospital, 63 of them in a critical condition. A total of 51,256 PCR and antigen rapid tests were carried out.

Out of the 274 patients who have died 181 are men (66%) and 93 are women (34%).

Moreover 33 patients out of the 63 patients, who are in a critical condition, are intubated, five are treated in an Intensive Treatment Unit and 25 in an Increased Care Unit without being intubated.

Out of the 51.256 tests conducted on Tuesday, 5.538 were carried out using the PCR method and 45.718 using antigen rapid tests.

The 619 COVID-19 cases were traced as follows: 114 cases out of 921 samples taken after contact tracing of confirmed cases, 3 cases out of 1.182 samples taken from passengers at Larnaca and Paphos airports, 148 cases out of 2.973 samples taken on the private initiative, 14 cases out of 256 samples taken by the General Hospitals Microbiology Labs, 1 case out of 206 samples taken after referrals by Personal Doctors and during checks of special groups at Public Health Centres, 33 cases out of 1.578 samples tested using antigen rapid tests at private clinical labs and pharmacies, and 306 cases out of 44.140 samples tested using antigen rapid tests.
