Οne death, 565 new COVID cases on Monday

Cyprus Health Ministry announced one death from COVID-19 and 565 new cases on Monday, bringing total to 48,278.  The total number of fatalities rose to 262 and 196 patients are getting treatment in hospitals, 47 in serious condition.

Today`s cases were detected from a total of  54,652 tests (PCR and rapid). The positivity rate stands at 1.03%.

The deceased is a 74 year old male who got the 1st dose of the vaccine and had underlying conditions.

From the 262 people who lost their lives, 174 are male (66%) and 88 female (34%). Their median age is 79 years.

From the 47 patients in serious condition, the 24 are intubated, 4 are in an ICU and 19 in an ACU.

Today`s cases were detected as follows  (5,414 PCR and 49,238 rapid tests):

120 from 703 samples from contact tracing, 5 from 2,778 tests at airports, 44 from 1,258 tests on private initiative, 34 from 492 samples taken at the Microbiological labs of general hospitals island wide, 2 from 183 samples from GP referrals and testing at public clinics, 14 from 514 rapid tests done in private labs and chemists and 346 from 48,724  samples via the mass testing fo the population with rapid tests.

The positivity rate based on rapid tests in Nicosia is 0.76% (14,404 tests) , in Limassol 1.08%( 9,752 tests), in Larnaka 0.81% (5,651 tests) , in Paphos is 0.94% ( 3,200 tests) and in Famagusta 0.56% (1,965 tests). One case was detected at a nursing home in Paphos and 7 in testing done at the Industrial zones in Limassol and Strovolos. From 10,541 tests done at schools, 34 cases were diagnosed and 1 in a testing in special schools (550). In the army 474 tests were conducted and 2 came back positive.
