One death, 99 new Covid-19 cases announced on Sunday

Cyprus Health Ministry announced on Sunday one death and 99 new COVID-19 cases.

The death concerns a woman aged 60 who died in Nicosia Intensive Care Unit.

A Ministry press releases says that the total number of deaths recorded in Cyprus since the outbreak of the pandemic now stands at 562, of whom 356 men (63%), and 206 women (37%). The average age is 76.3 years.

A total of 55 patients are currently receiving treatment in hospitals, 21 in a serious condition. A percentage 63.5% of the patients have not been vaccinated. Ten patients are intubated and are being treated in an ICU and 11 are in an ACU.

By district, in state hospitals the number of patients receiving treatment is as follows: 13 patients are in Famagusta General Hospital, 13 are in Nicosia Hospital, in Limassol Hospital there are 11 patients, 7  patients are being hospitalized in Paphos, one patient is in Makario Hospital and 10 patients are intubated in ICUs.

The Ministry also notes that 9 post-COVID patients continue to be treated intubated in a serious condition in ICUs.

A total of 99 new cases were detected out of 38,627 PCR and antigen rapid test carried out in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate now stands at 0.26%. The total number of COVID-19 cases reaches 122,362.

The 99 positive cases were detected as follows: 9 from 65 samples taken in the context of contact tracing, 12 from 3,750 tests among passengers at airports, 8 from 915 samples tested on private initiative, 3 were found after 62 samples were tested at hospital labs, 29 were found from 14,724 tests done in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies, 38 were found from 18,808 samples tested under the ministry’s free testing programme.
