One death from COVID-19, two new cases reported on Tuesday

One more person has died in Cyprus from COVID-19 while authorities announced another two cases on Tuesday from a total of 2,646 tests.

A man, of 77 years of age, with a serious medical history who was treated at Famagusta General Hospital, died, a Ministry of Health press release says.

"The death is attributed to the disease COVID-19. Therefore the total number of deaths of patients positive to the virus SARS-CoV-2 reaches 28 and deaths which are attributed to the COVID-19 disease reach 21, 15 men and 6 women, of an average age of 73 years," it reads.

Additionally, the Ministry informs that in accordance to the data received by the Epidemiological Monitoring Unit from the laboratories which conduct tests, out of a total of 2,646 tests, two new COVID-19 cases were found.

In particular, one person tested positive out of 751 samples tested by private initiative. The person had undergone testing in order to return to work and has no symptoms.

One more person tested positive out of 97 samples tested in the context of tracing contacts of confirmed cases. The person was a contact from the family environment of a confirmed case and underwent testing after presenting with symptoms on August 26.

It is further added that no one tested positive out of 1,471 tests in the context of screening passengers arriving and people repatriating to Cyprus, out of 179 tests in the context of referrals by GPs and the screening of special groups through the public health centres, out of 98 tests from the Microbiology Labs of the General Hospitals, out of 47 tests at the cross -points between the government controlled areas of the Republic and the Turkish occupied areas, 2 tests on residents of Kato Pyrgos Tyllirias village and 1 test on people who work in the areas of the Courts.

Therefore, the press release says, "and on the bases of data so far, the total number of cases reaches 1,490."

Additionally, five patients are treated at Famagusta General Hospital. One of them is treated in the Increased Care Unit. One person was released yesterday, while one more person is intubated and continues to be treated in the Nicosia General Hospital`s ICU.
