Only one new case of coronavirus out of a total of 2,647 tests has been confirmed in Cyprus, authorities announced on Thursday.

The case was found out of 203 laboratory tests carried out during the process of tracking the contacts of already confirmed cases.

Speaking during a press conference, Dr. Leontios Kostrikis, member of the Scientific Committee on the pandemic, said that the case resulted from the tracking of the contacts of the case found a few days ago in a kindergarten in Paphos.

He said that the case is another member of the kindergarten noting that the investigations will continue for as long as necessary, based on the procedure followed in all cases.

On the basis of today’s results total confirmed cases have reached 923, he said.

Kostrikis stressed that the epidemiological picture remains excellent and we must all preserve it assuming our share of responsibility.

He said that the second phase of easing restrictive measures launched today marks a particularly important period as further planning depends on this phase results.

On his part, Dr Marios Loizou, Scientific Director at the Nicosia Directorate of the Cyprus State Health Services Organisation said that on the basis of the data until 1500 hours local time, four people are inpatients at Famagusta General Hospital, which operates as the reference hospital for COVID-19. One of the four patients is treated in the increased care unit of the hospital.

According to Loizou, two patients are on a ventilator at the Nicosia General Hospital ICU and two more patients are being treated in the same ICU but are breathing without the help of a ventilator.
