Only one death from COVID-19 announced

One death and 2,207 new COVID-19 cases were recorded between June 3-9, Cyprus’ Health Ministry said on Friday.

According to the Ministry, 58,585 tests were carried out in the past week while the positivity rate reached 3.77%.

The deaths concern a 52 year-old man who died in March 2021 but the death was reported this week to the Ministry. This brings the total number of deaths from COVID-19 to 1,068, while 493,984 cases have been recorded since the beginning of the pandemic.

Thirty-one patients with COVID-19 are being treated in hospital, of whom four post-COVID patients are in serious condition. Two are in the ICU and another two in a high dependency unit.

During the past week, 3,509 PCR tests and 54,995 rapid tests were carried out.

Another 86 cases emerged as part of the Health Ministry’s testing programmes, while 75 cases were detected at the testing sites.

Six cases were detected in the National Guard, no cases in nursing homes, and five cases in closed structures.
