President Anasasiades: This is a historic day

Cyprus President, Nicos Anastasiades, has said that today is a historic day as the second phase of the implementation of Cyprus’ National Health System gets underway.

“Today is a day for which everyone - the citizens, the government, political parties and institutions - must feel proud. It is a really historic day because we implement a vision of decades for our country, because the National Health System is being fulfilled with the beginning of the implementation of its second phase. A system that was absent for decades,” Anastasiades said in a televised message, congratulating everyone who contributed to get to this moment.
 
Anastasiades expressed the belief that it is an obligation of the state to provide the best possible health services to the citizens, “whom we, as high-ranking officials, have to serve with utmost respect.”
 
The President said that while we are undergoing a phase of exiting an unprecedented health crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic he feels proud “of everything that we have achieved.”
 
“This is the best time, after our health system gains the self-confidence that it was lacking for so many years, to take this great step and provide to our citizens a comprehensive, effective health system, based on solidarity, that we have envisaged for years,” he noted.
 
Anastasiades also said that Cyprus has nothing to be jealous of from the most developed countries in the world as regards the health sector.
 
He expressed certainty that despite the difficulties “that we will initially face with patience and understanding from everyone we will overcome any problems that may come up.”
 
Moreover, he sent the message to healthcare workers that “our country trusts you. You have proved that you are worth of this trust.”
 
“We will always be by your side to support this great effort and fulfill in the best possible way the biggest maybe reform in the history of the Republic of Cyprus,” he concluded.
