Seven deaths and 1,934 new COVID cases in last 7 days

Seven deaths and 1,934 new cases of COVID-19 were announced by the Ministry of Health on Friday, concerning the week 20-26 January 2023.

According to a Ministry press release, 66,251 diagnostic tests were carried out and the positivity rate stands at 2.92%.

The deaths recorded concern five men and two women between 63 and 98 years of age, who passed away between 19 and 26 January.

The total number of deaths with COVID-19 as the final cause, stands at 1,287, while the total number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic has reached 642,663.

A total of sixty-nine COVID-19 patients are being treated at hospitals, fourteen of whom are in a serious condition.

Out of 1,760 molecular tests (PCR) a total of 149 positive cases have emerged, with a positivity rate of 8.47%.

In addition, 64,491 rapid tests were carried out, from which 1,785 positive cases have emerged, with a positivity rate of 2.77%.

On a private initiative, 1,310 PCR tests were carried out and 59 positive cases were identified, with a positivity rate of 4.5%. Also, 40,299 rapid tests were carried out and 1,596 positive cases were identified, with a positivity rate of 3.96%.

Through the programmes of the Ministry of Health, 24,192 rapid tests were carried out and 189 positive cases were detected, while at the screening points 16,447 rapid tests were carried out and 109 positive cases were identified, with a positivity rate of 0.66%.
