Six COVID-19 cases announced on Thursday

Six new COVID-19 cases were announced on Thursday by the Cyprus authorities, including a football player of Enosis Neon Paralimniou team who arrived last night from Brazil and was tested upon his arrival, migrants who arrived in the occupied areas from Syria via Turkey and contacts of an already confirmed case.

The Health Ministry announced that the new cases were confirmed out of a total of 1,504 tests as follows:

One sample was tested out of 767 tests carried out for passengers and repatriates, 131 tests were completed as part of referrals from personal doctors and special groups screening through the public health centres and three cases were confirmed, 95 tests were carried out in the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases and two cases were detected.

The Ministry announced that the three cases are migrants who arrived in the occupied areas from Syria via Turkey and were tested before they were transferred to the Pournara Reception Camp. The football player arrived last nite from Brazil via Zurich, under special permit and the two cases are family contacts of an already confirmed case announced July 8. This confirmed case is a hotel employee, the Ministry clarified.

No positive cases were found out of 23 tests run in the framework of the programme for 10,000 employees who went back to work during phase B and C of easing of restrictive measures and out of 374 tests done on a private initiative. Moreover no positive cases were detected out of 114 tests done at the Microbiological Labs of General Hospitals islandwide.

The total number of cases is 1,031.

The Enosis Neon Paralimniou football club announced today that the player, Juan Felipe, did not come into contact with any team members and remains in self isolation, following all the protocols and instructions given to him.
