Six deaths due to COVID and 2,103 new cases between 13-19 May

Cyprus Health Ministry on Friday announced 6 deaths due to COVID and 2,103 new cases for the period between 13 – 19 May. Ministry said that 42 people are getting treatment in hospitals and that the positivity rate stands now at 1,7% from a total of 123,569 tests.

The deceased are 3 male and 3 female, from 65 to 94 years old, that passed away between 14-18 May.

Nine patients are in serious condition (4 are intubated and 5 in an ACU). Moreover 11 patients who are no longer infectious are being treated in an ICU.

Total cases in Cyprus since the pandemic broke out rose to 488,189.

PCR tests during this period were 8,861 and 315 cases were diagnosed (Positivity rate PR 3.55%), the rapid tests were 114,708 and 1,788 came back positive (PR 1.56%).

In the framework of contact tracing 141 PCR tests were carried out and 7 cases were diagnosed (PR 4.96%) while on private initiative from a total of 4,819 PCR, 230 cases were reported (PR 4.77%).

On private initiative 73,391 rapid tests were carried out and 1,521 cases were detected (PR 2.07%) while through the Ministry’s testing program 41,317 rapid tests were done and 267 cases were diagnosed. At testing units a total of 17.218 rapid tests were carried out and 212 cases were reported (PR 1.23%).

In elementary schools the rapid tests were 9,977 and 7 cases were detected (PR 0.07%) while in high schools from a total of 2,710 tests, no case was detected.

Via the test to stay program, one case was detected from 222 tests (PR 0.45%). In specials schools 666 tests were carried out and no case was found.

In the army 21 tests were carried out and 1 case was detected (PR 4.76%) while in nursing homes 5,279  tests were conducted and 44 cases were reported (PR 0.83%). In closed units from 5.224 rapid tests, 2 cases were diagnosed (PR 0.04%).
