Six new cases of COVID-19 detected in Cyprus

Six new cases of COVID-19 were announced by the Health authorities in Cyprus from a total of 2.928 tests.

A Health Ministry statement said that two tested positive from 1.204 samples taken in the framework of testing 20 thousand students and members of staff at schools. Further information on the two cases, a secondary school student and member of the School board will be announced by the Ministry of Education.

Two more tested positive from 217 samples at the Microbiological Labs of the General Hospitals. One is a member of the nursing staff and the second is a patient at Nicosia General Hospital.

Another patient tested positive as part of testing specific groups of the population through Public Medical Centers. The patient was tested before admission for treatment. Another person tested positive from 222 samples from private initiative.

No positive cases were detected from 491 samples from the 10,000 employees at hairdressing salons, barber shops, tattoo studios and restaurants, from four samples of the 20 thousand employees in the retail sector and at construction sites, from 478 samples from repatriates and 121 samples as part of contact tracing from confirmed cases.

According to today’s data, the total number of cases rose to 958.

Three persons were treated as inpatients at Famagusta General Hospital, which is the COVID-19 refence hospital. Three other patients are on ventilators at Nicosia General Hospital Intensive Care Unit. Another patient is being treated at another hospital.
