Thirty new COVID-19 cases announced on Tuesday

Thirty new COVID-19 cases were detected in Cyprus, after 2,685 laboratory tests, the Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday. The total number of cases recorded in Cyprus since the outbreak of the pandemic rose to 1,743, the announcement says.

Nine cases were detected out of 623 samples tested on private initiative. It is noted that five of them were passengers who arrived on September 13, 17 and 25. One of them arrived from England and is an UNFICYP staff member.  

Thirteen Covid-19 positive cases were found out of 212 samples taken in the framework of the contact tracing. The majority, namely five of them, are family members of footballers of Nea Salamina and Ethnikos Achnas announced as positive cases in the previous days.

Six more cases were detected out of 496 samples taken in the framework of testing 3.000 persons in Larnaca district. Four of them are footballers from Asil Lysis football club, while another person is a student and a footballer of Nea Salamina. One case out of the six detected in Larnaca district is also a student of a private school.

Two cases were detected among 1,087 passengers and repatriates tested upon arrival One of them arrived from London and the other from Moscow. Both of them arrived in Cyprus on September 28.

No cases were found after 96 tests done after GP’s referrals and in the framework of testing special groups; out of 129 tests done by the Microbiology Labs of General Hospitals; from 42 samples taken in the framework of testing of pupils, teachers and school staff.

Additionally, 16 persons are being treated at Famagusta General Hospital, which operates as the reference hospital. Four of them are at the increased care unit.
