Three COVID-19 patients died on Sunday, 852 new cases

Three COVID-19 patients died on Sunday, while 852 new coronavirus cases (positivity rate 1.44%) were detected, Cyprus Health Ministry announced. Currently 271 COVID-19 patients are treated in hospital, 67 of them in a critical condition.

The three people who passed away are a 62 year old man who was not vaccinated and died in Nicosia Hospital Intensive Treatment Unit,  a 92 year old man who was also not vaccinated and died in Limassol General Hospital and a 65 year old man who had taken the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and died in Nicosia Hospital Intensive Treatment Unit.

The number of COVID-19 patients who have lost their lives is now 291 and the number of confirmed cases 56.259. Out of the 291 people who have died 192 are men (66%) and 99 are women (34%). Their median age is 78 years old.

Out of the 67 patients whose health condition is critical 32 are intubated, four are treated in an Intensive Treatment Unit but are not intubated and 31 in an Increased Care Unit.

A total of 59.042 tests were carried out on Sunday, 5.638 using the PCR method and 53.404 using antigen rapid tests.

The 852 cases were traced as follows: 151 cases out of 1.085 samples taken in the framework of tracing the contacts of already confirmed cases, 6 cases out of 1.912 samples taken by passengers at Larnaca and Paphos airports, 118 cases out of 2.019 samples taken at the private initiative, 30 cases out of 406 samples taken by the General Hospitals` Microbiology Labs, 2 cases out of 216 samples taken after referrals by Personal Doctors and in the framework of checks carried out for special groups of the population at public health centres, 6 cases out of 123 samples tested at private clinical labs and pharmacies using antigen rapid tests and 539 cases out of 53.281 samples tested using antigen rapid tests.
