Three deaths of COVID patients and 2,546 new cases on Tuesday

Cyprus Health Ministry announced on Tuesday the deaths of 3 COVID-19 patients and 2,546 new coronavirus cases, while 223 patients are treated in hospital, 71 of them in a critical condition. The positivity rate stands at 2.56%.

The total number of people who have lost their lives of COVID-19 is now 716, while the number of confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic is 241,319.

A percentage of 73.43% of the COVID-19 patients who are currently in hospital have not been vaccinated.

Moreover, 25 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be contagious are still treated in a critical condition due to COVID-19 in an Intensive Treatment Unit and are intubated.

A total of 99,308 tests were carried out using the PCR method (6,465) and antigen rapid tests (92,843).

The three people who have died are an 86 year old woman, who passed away on January 24 in Famagusta General Hospital, an 85 year old woman who passed away on January 25 in Paphos General Hospital, and an 88 year old man who lost his life on January 25 in Limassol General Hospital.

Out of the 716 COVID-19 patients who have died, 448 (62.6%) are men and 268 (37.4%) are women. Their median age is 76.1 years old.

Seventy-one of the 223 COVID-19 patients who are hospitalized are in a critical condition or are treated in an Increased Care Unit.

Twenty-seven of them are intubated, five are treated in an Intensive Treatment Unit but are not intubated, and 39 are in an Increased Care Unit.

The 2,546 new COVID-19 cases were traced as follows: 105 cases out of 543 samples taken during contact tracing, 70 cases out of 2,286 samples taken by passengers at Larnaca and Paphos airports, 341 cases out of 3,175 samples taken at the private initiative, 19 cases out of 324 samples taken by the General Hospitals` Microbiology Labs, 1,186 cases out of 41,718 samples tested using antigen rapid tests at private clinical labs and pharmacies and 830 cases out of 51,125 samples tested using antigen rapid tests, through the Health Ministry`s programme.
