Three male patients die of COVID19, 113 new infections announced

The Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday the death of three male patients of COVID19, thus bringing the total number of deaths due to the pandemic to 217, 148 men (68%) and 69 women (32%), with a median age of 79.

Meanwhile, 95 patients are receiving treatment in state hospitals, 36 of whom in a serious condition.

A total of 113 new coronavirus infections have been reported after 24,780 tests done with both the PCR and antigen rapid test methods, recording a positivity rate of 0.46%.

The number of people infected with the virus since the beginning of the pandemic is 32,072.

The three people who died were all men 61, 77 and 86 years old all with underlying conditions.

In state hospitals there are 95 patients, 36 of whom in a serious condition. In the Famagusta General Hospital there are 20 patients, in the Nicosia General Hospital there are 35, while 37 other patients are receiving treatment in the Limassol General Hospital and 3 are in the Makario Hospital in Nicosia.

Out of the 24,780 laboratory tests done in the last 24 hours, 1,865 were carried out with the PCR method and the rest with the antigen rapid test method. The 113 new cases were detected as follows: 27 after contact tracing, 1 from testing in the airports, 8 after testing upon private initiative, 12 were found after samples taken in the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 6 others were found after antigen rapid tests done in private laboratories and 56 were detected from the Ministry of Health`s antigen rapid tests. Meanwhile, no cases were found from 239 samples tested from GP referrals.
