Three more deaths and 130 new Covid-19 cases reported on Sunday

Cyprus authorities reported three more deaths and 130 new Covid-19 cases out of a 7,740 tests carried out on Sunday, a positivity rate of 1.68%. At the same time 173 people are receiving hospital treatment, 55 of whom are in a serious condition.

The total number of people who have contracted the coronavirus in the Republic is 30,017 while so far 186 people have died from the disease, 125 men (67%) and 61 women (33%). The median age of the deceased is 80.

The three people who passed away were all men, aged 77, 94 and 83 who also had other underlying health conditions, a Ministry of Health press release says.

In total, 173 Covid-19 patients are being treated in state hospitals. The condition of 55 of them is serious. Thirty are intubated, five are being treated in an ICU but do not need a ventilatero and 20 are in an Increased Care Unit.

Out of 7,740 tests on Sunday, 1,422 PCR and 6,318 antigen rapid tests, 130 Covid-19 cases were found as follows:

Out of 325 samples tested in the context of the contact tracing procedure 40 people tested positive; out of 764 samples tested privately 23 people tested positive; out of 69 samples from the General Hospitals' Microbiology Labs 3 people tested positive, out of 264 samples from GP referrals and the screening of special groups of people through the public health centres one person tested positive; Out of 6,318 samples which were tested by way of antigen rapid test, 63 people tested positive.
