Three more deaths and 157 new Covid-19 cases announced on Sunday

The Ministry of Health announced on Sunday three more deaths and 157 new Covid-19 cases. This brings the total number of Covid-19 cases detected since the outbreak of the pandemic in Cyprus to 28,968.

It was also announced that 208 patients are receiving treatment in state hospitals with 56 of them in a serious condition.

The deaths concern two men, aged 67 and 89 and an 83 years old woman, all with underlying conditions. The total number or deaths has increase to 170, 113 men (66%) and 57 women (34%). The average age is now 79 years.

The total number of patients receiving treatment in hospitals stands at 208, 56 are in serious condition of whom 32 are intubated, seven are being treated in Intensive Care Unit and 17 in Increased Care Unit.

The 157 new cases were detected out of 7,056 lab tests carried out today. A total of 1,259 were PCR and 5,797 antigen rapid tests.

The cases were detected as follows: 38 case were found out of 329 samples tested in the framework of contact tracing, 26 cases were detected from 515 samples taken on private initiative, 7 case from 158 samples taken by state hospitals labs, two positive results came out from 257 tests done on GP’s referrals and in the framework of controlling special groups by public health centers.

Additionally, 84 cases were found out of 5,797 antigen rapid tests.

In Limassol 1,427 rapid tests were done with 38 positive results. In Larnaca 16 positive results were found from 1,026 rapid tests. In Nicosia from 2,608 tests done 28 positive cases were found. In Paphos and Famagusta no positive case was found. Finally, the Ministry of Health announced that 2 positive Covid-19 cases were detected in care homes in Nicosia.
