Three new cases of COVID-19 detected from testing

Three new cases of coronavirus were detected in Cyprus by the authorities from a total of 1,473 tests. In a statement, the Health Ministry said the total number of cases on the island rose to 952.

One case a student at a gymnasium, was located from 430 tests as part of the programme for testing 20,000 pupils and school employees. The second case came from 81 samples tested in the framework of the programme for testing specific groups of the population through Public Medical Centers and the third from a restaurant, as part of the programme for testing 10,000 employees at hairdressing salons, barber shops, tattoo studios and restaurants.

 
No positive samples were found in the framework of the programme for testing 20.000 employees in the retail sector and at construction sites, repatriates, the Microbiological Labs of the General Hospitals, contact tracing of confirmed cases and private initiative testing.

Three persons were treated as inpatients at Famagusta General Hospital, which is the COVID-19 refence hospital. Three other patients are on ventilators at Nicosia General Hospital Intensive Care Unit.

The Ministry of Education announced that the school where the positive case was detected is being cleaned and disinfected and will reopen after the process is completed.
