A total of 266 new COVID cases detected on Tuesday

Cyprus health authorities announced 266 new COVID-19 infections on Tuesday bringing the total number of cases since the outbreak of the pandemic to 126.497.

A press release issued by the Ministry of Health says the daily positivity rate now stands at 0.47%.

No fatalities were reported and as a result, total deaths remained unchanged at 576 of whom 368 or 64% were men and 208 or 36% were women with a median age of 76.1 years.

According to the Ministry, 71 patients receive treatment in public hospitals, of whom 22 are being treated in serious condition in ACUs and ICUs. Of the 22 patients in serious condition, six are intubated in ICUs, two in ICU but not connected to a ventilator and 14 patients are in ACUs. One post-covid patient who is no longer infectious is intubated in serious condition in the ICU.

According to data 63.39% of the patients have no vaccination history.

The 266 new COVID cases were detected from 57.173 tests, of which 4.631 were done through PCR method and 52.542 with antigen rapid tests.

A total of 71 cases were detected from 649 samples tested in the context of contact tracing, three tested positive from 1.936 samples taken at Paphos and Larnaca Airports, 51 cases were found from 1.648 tests done privately.  Two more cases were detected after 247 tests done on referrals from personal doctors to public health hospitals while 93 cases were diagnosed from 31.239 rapid tests carried out at private labs and pharmacies and a further 46 from 21.303 samples tested in the context of the Ministry of Health rapid test programme.
