Two deaths and 2,932 new cases of COVID-19 in one week

Two deaths and 2,932 new cases of COVID-19 were announced by the Ministry of Health on Friday. The cases relate to the week 16 to 22 September 2022.

According to the Ministry, a total of 66,616 diagnostic tests were carried out and the positivity rate in all tests was 4.4%.

The deaths recorded relate to a woman, aged 76, who died on 16 September and a man, aged 70, who died on 19 September.

The total number of deaths with a terminal cause of COVID-19 is 1,180, while the total number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic has reached 585,313.

In addition, 51 COVID-19 patients are being treated in hospital, one of whom is in a serious condition. Meanwhile, four patients who have ceased to be infectious continue to be intubated due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.

According to the press release, 2,489 molecular tests (PCR) resulted in 175 positive cases, with a positivity rate of 7.03%. In addition, 64,127 rapid tests were carried out, resulting in 2,757 positive cases, with a positive rate of 4.3%. Two molecular tests were performed through tracing and no positive cases were detected.

In total, 2,125 molecular tests were carried out on private initiative and 128 positive cases were detected, with a rate of 6.02%, while 46,111 rapid antigen detection tests were carried out and 2,638 positive cases were detected, with a positivity rate of 5.72%.

Meanwhile, 18,016 rapid antigen tests were carried out through the Ministry of Health programmes and 119 positive cases were detected, while 9,979 rapid detection tests were carried out at the sampling sites and 89 positive cases were detected, with a positivity rate of 0.89%.

At the same time, 111 rapid antigen tests were performed by the National Guard and 4 positive cases were detected, with a positivity rate of 3.6%, while at nursing homes 4,834 rapid antigen detection tests were performed and 21 positive cases were detected, with a positivity rate of 0.43%.

Five new cases were detected out of 3,092 rapid antigen tests in closed facilities, with a positivity rate of 0.16%.
