Two new confirmed COVID-19 cases detected

Two new cases of coronavirus were confirmed on Sunday by the Ministry of Health, all from testing from private initiative.

A total of 2,248  tests were held, the Ministry of Health said in a statement.

Two tested positive from 206 tests as part of testing from private initiative. The number of confirmed cases rose to 916.

No one tested positive from 497 tests as part the testing programme of students and school staff. In addition, no one tested positive out of 114 tests on contacts of already confirmed cases, 116 tests at the Microbiology Labs of the General Hospitals,  106 from the special groups testing programme in public health centers and 1.102 tests conducted on employees in the retail and construction sectors and from 107 tests on people who were repatriated.

On the basis of the data until 1500 hours local time, four people are inpatients at Famagusta General Hospital, which operates as the reference hospital for COVID-19. One is being treated at the Special Care Unit. Three patients are on a ventilator at the Nicosia General Hospital ICU, with their condition remaining critical but stable.

One more confirmed case is receiving treatment in a hospital other than the reference hospital.
