Two patients die on Tuesday, 390 COVID-19 new cases

Two COVID-19 patients died in Cyprus on Tuesday, while a total of 390 new COVID-19 cases (positivity rate 0.59%) were confirmed out of 65,548 PCR and antigen rapid tests. A total of 189 COVID-19 patients are treated in hospitals, 57 of whom in a critical condition.

The number of patients who have died since the outbreak of the pandemic in Cyprus is now 339 and the number of confirmed cases 70,098.

The two people who died on Tuesday is a 77-year-old man who passed away in Nicosia General Hospital and a 62-year-old man who passed away in Nicosia General Hospital Intensive Treatment Unit.

Out of the 339 people who have lost their lives 224 are men (66%) and 115 are women (34%). Their median age is 77.8 years old.

Out of the 65.548 that have been conducted 7,113 were done using the PCR method and 58.435 using antigen rapid tests.

The 390 new cases were detected as follows: 117 cases out of 3,529 samples taken in the framework of tracing the contacts of already confirmed cases, 109 cases out of 2,786 samples taken on private initiative, 10 cases out of 420 samples taken by the General Hospitals Microbiological Labs, 2 cases out of 378 samples tested after referrals by Personal Doctors and during checks of special groups of the population at public health centres, 32 cases out of 2,564 samples tested using antigen rapid tests at private clinical labs and pharmacies, and 120 cases out of 55,871 samples tested using antigen rapid tests.
