Two people died of COVID-19, 622 new cases

The Ministry of Health announced on Thursday that two people lost their lives to COVID-19, thus bringing the total number of deaths to 268, 176 men (66%) and 92 women (34%). Their median age is 79.

In addition, 622 new coronavirus cases were diagnosed out of 47,547 laboratory tests done with both the PCR and antigen rapid test methods. The positivity rate stands at 1.31%.

In the state hospitals 207 patients  are receiving treatment, 52 of whom in a serious condition.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, 49,988 people have been infected with the coronavirus.

The two deceased are a 91 year old woman with underlying conditions, who had received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and a 44 year old woman with an underlying condition, who was not vaccinated.

Out of the 52 patients who are in a critical condition, 31 are intubated. In the Famagusta General Hospital 60 patients are receiving treatment, in the Nicosia General Hospital there are 67, while 46 are being treated in the Limassol General Hospital, 13 in the Larnaka General Hospital, 20 people are receiving treatment in the Pafos General Hospital and 1 patient is in the Makario Hospital in Nicosia.

From the 47,547 tests carried out on Thursday, 3,752 were done with the PCR method and 43,795 with the antigen rapid test method. The 622 new coronavirus cases were found as follows: 126 from contact tracing, 2 from samples taken at the airports, 114 from tests done on private initiative, 15 from samples taken at the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 1 from GP referrals, 30 from antigen rapid tests done in private laboratories and pharmacies and 334 from antigen rapid tests.
