Loizou Costakis

Biography

Costakis Loizou is the Executive Chairman of the Louis Group of companies (CLIN Company, Louis Travel, LGS Handling, 4th GL Prodata, Louis Catering Services, etc.) and Louis PLC (Louis Hotels Public Company Ltd, Celestyal Cruises Ltd). Since 1989, he is the Honorary Consul General of Hungary in Cyprus.

Mr. Loizou served as President or member in various Boards of Directors of private and public bodies of both the local business and tourism industry of Cyprus, such as the Cyprus Hotels Association, the Association of Cyprus Travel Agents, the American Society of Travel Agents, the Cyprus Higher Hotel Institute, the Cyprus Federation of Employers and Industrialists, the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, Alpha Bank, Cyprus Telecommunications Authority, the Pancyprian Association of Car Rental Owners, the Council of Public Transport, the Cyprus Petroleum Refinery, the Rotary Club, the Cyprus Environmental Protection Association and others.

Mr. Loizou has received numerous awards for his contribution to the state, the society and the economy both in Cyprus and Greece, as well as internationally. He has been honoured by the Hungarian government with the highest distinction of the “Commander’s Cross with Star of the Order of Merit”, as well as the medal “Pro Auxilio Civium Hungarorum”. He has also been awarded the “Cavalier’s Cross of the Order of Merit” by the Republic of Poland.

Among others, the International Society of Hospitality Consultants (ISHC) awarded Mr. Loizou the “Pioneer in European Tourism” award in 2005. The Confederation of National Associations of Hotels, Restaurants, Cafes and Similar Establishments in the European Union (HOTREC) awarded him with the European Hospitality Foundation Award in 2012. The Union of Cruise Shipowners and Associated Members (EEKFN) has honoured him for his “great contribution to the development of the cruise industry in Greece” in 2014. In November 2018, Mr. Loizou was awarded with the “Special Recognition Award” by TUI, the largest tourism organisation in the world. The Cyprus-Greek Business Association also awarded him in November 2018, for his substantial contribution in the development of the Greek economy. In December 2018 he was awarded the gold medal of patron Saint Spyridon of the Holy Metropolis of Piraeus, for his substantial contribution towards the charity efforts of the Metropolis. In October 2019 he was awarded by the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry as Business Leader in the Tourism category. In January 2020, he was once again awarded by EEKFN for his contribution to the greek cruising industry. In June 2021 he was honoured with the gold medal of the Apostle Paul, the highest honorary distinction of the holy Archbishopric of Cyprus, for his contribution as a benefactor of the new Cathedral of the Apostle Barnabas.

He has been a speaker at a great number of international tourism-related conferences and has written numerous articles on tourism.

Mr. Loizou was born in Limassol in 1944 and lives in Nicosia. Following his graduation from the American College in Athens, he studied Economics and Business Administration in London and Geneva.

He is married to Yianna, has two children Louis and Marissa, who work in the Louis Group and 5 grandchildren.
